Peach Berry White Wine Sangria

Welcome back to QCK!

The end of summer heat wave is here! I’m trying to enjoy it because before we know it, it’ll be too cold to even consider going outdoors. But I’m definitely not interested in turning on my oven or standing over a stove. So instead, I’m going to eat some leftovers, drink a lot of water, and end the day with something cold and refreshing like this white wine sangria.

Sangria is a drink that I’ve always wanted to like, but never really have. I first had it a few years ago when Arlo and I went to Barcelona, I hated it. Traditionally, sangria is made with red wine, and I don’t like red wine. So, I wrote it off as gross and then a year later ended up cooking in a Spanish tapas restaurant in Minneapolis that was known for having great sangria. I thought it was okay, it was loaded with sugar so it just kind of tasted like red wine with a lot of sugar. I didn’t really get the hype, until I heard about white wine sangria, and now I’m fully on board.

This sangria is so insanely refreshing. Chilled white wine, fresh berries and peaches, and a couple slices of lime for some fresh acidity. I use a Vouvray as my wine here, I don’t know a ton about wine but I did some research and testing and landed on Vouvray as my favorite. Vouvray has a lot of range, as in it can either be fairly dry, or fairly sweet, as well as still or sparkling, but the base of the wine remains the same. Light, refreshing, easy to drink, pairs well with a cheese board. It’s very approachable and you can pick a brand based on your preferences. I went for something right in the middle, a little fizzy but still somewhat dry because we’re adding sugar.

This is really a great drink for your end of summer (maybe Labor Day?) get together. Everything’s in season, it’s chilled, it’s easy to drink, and it’s easy to make a big batch! Just double/triple depending on the size of your get together. You can make it the morning of or the night before, leave it in the fridge until it’s time to serve and you’ll have the perfect serve yourself drink, no need to play bartender!

Substitutions and Add Ons

  • Vouvray can be substituted for a Champagne, Chardonnay or Moscato, if you’re using Moscato you can either skip or cut the sugar in half depending on your preference.
  • Peaches can be substituted for nectarines.
  • Berries can be fresh or frozen.
  • Limes can be substituted for lemons.
  • You can also add strawberries, plums, mint, mango, orange.
